An Open Letter to a UCC  Fresher.

In a few weeks, you will be starting one of the greatest adventures
of your life. Congratulations!  All those countless hours preparing for the WASSCE has finally paid off.
Right now you’re probably feeling nostalgic about the end of high school, but there is no time for that. One of the greatest journeys of your life is right on the horizon. So remember all of your high school friends and experiences, but don’t get too caught up in all of that that you actually forget to take in the sights and sounds of this new experience that is at your doorstep.
Your first year is probably jam-packed with requirements, but power through it, and know that you’ll have tons of options open to you in no time. You might go into the university knowing exactly what you want to study or what you want to do with the rest of your life, or you might be excited about the prospect of taking a cornucopia of different classes.  Wherever you lie on that scale, be sure to take courses in subjects that you might not normally think that you will be interested in. Odds are, you’ll try to forge a future career in the same industry as your major, so now is your opportunity to explore other topics and benefit from all of those extra, elective course credits that you have.
Take advantage of all of the opportunities that present themselves to you.  And better yet, don’t just wait for opportunities to come along, make them yourself and go out there and look for them. If you know what you want to do, go out there and do it, and don’t be afraid of failure. You are only in the university once, so stop worrying about applying for that internship and never hearing back. The second you let fear creep into your life, it will take complete control of you.

University is the time to be your own boss and seek out whatever you most want; so take full and complete advantage of that.  University is the safety net in your own personal circus of life.
And I think it goes without saying that there is more to the university than just academics.  Sure, you want to graduate with the highest CGPA that you possibly can, but there is a whole other world in university life than just your semesterly 18 credits.   Join clubs and get involved in extra-curriculars. In the university, there are organizations on virtually every topic or subject imaginable from philanthropic clubs to intramural sports, the student newspaper or an a Capella group, and just like in high school, clubs are a great way to dabble in an area that you have no prior experience.
You'll be allocated a hall of residence as a fresher. Currently, there are six traditional halls. Every hall is unique but Casely Hayford hall some say, stands out. That one di33 I must tell you. But Atlantic hall (the blue nation) will never accept that. Valco hall, touted as the famous noted for the entertainment prowess  undoubtedly, is the noisiest. Kwame Nkrumah hall, well, they take pride in being the excellent hall in UCC with discipline being their hall mark. The other two halls are Oguaa Hall (The Monkeys) ruling UCC at the moment and Adehye hall (the Royals of UCC) - creating enmity between the Super Powers and the "Superissimo" (You will soon find out)!

Relationships are very important. You must keep healthy relationship with your friends and lecturers. You must study your lecturer carefully before you tactfully associate with him or her. Not all lecturers are forgiving in the academic sense. Get an E, he or she would humbly give you E. As a freshman, grab a partner for yourself as and when necessary.

For the quizzes, you can't escape them. Be prepared to write whether announced or unannounced as it may seem. I remember the 5:00am quizzes I wrote. Hmmn, that's UCC for you.

UCC is always regarded as difficult school. This is due to the pace of academic work. Your student portal alone can give you pressure oo. Take a trip round the university and brace yourself with its conducive environment. UCC is one in a million.

I would love to tell you more but I can  finish telling you everything. On this note, I warmly welcome you to the University of Choice.

You can say hi when you see me.
