Pursue Courses with Many Job Prospects-Prez. Mahama Tells Students.

President Mahama has advised tertiary students to take a critical look at job prospects of courses before they apply to study in order to curb the high incidence of graduate unemployment.

He made this statement at the University of Cape Coast on Wednesday night 7th September, 2016. This forms part of the ruling NDC's preparations towards the general elections this December. Prior to his visit to UCC, the president had already toured several communities within the central region to monitor ongoing projects and as well propagate the "Changing Lives, Transforming Ghana" agenda.

Speaking to a section of senior staffs and students of the University of Cape Coast, the President emphasised the need for students and prospective students to have a fore knowledge about a particular Course of study before selecting the course.

This, the president said, will ensure that, students are abreast with the existing job prospects related to their (students) course of study before it is selected. “Don’t pursue a course just because it is available and also a degree is awarded for that particular course" He admonished. This according to the President will go a long way to address the graduate unemployment the nation is battling.

President Mahama also hinted on a progressively free tertiary education in the near future and justified the need to uphold the decision to scrap the teacher trainee allowances.

Other dignitaries present at the event were Hon.Okudzeto Ablakwa-minister in charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Dominic D. Kuupole- the outgoing Vice Chancellor of UCC , Honourable Kobby Acheampong- NDC parliamentary Aspirant for Cape Coast North Constituency including other senior staffs of UCC and Central Regional Executives of the ruling NDC.
