Central Regional NUGS inaugurated



An inauguration ceremony  was held yesterday ( 31st March, 2017) at the SRC Hostel Conference Room to induct a new set of Executives to facilitate the activities of NUGS at the regional level.

The National Union of Ghana Students is an official students body that seeks to promote and cater for the welfare of its members (students) since its establishment in 1966.

Unveiling the purpose of gathering, Mr. Albert Awotwi Sagoe, who is the President of NUGS-UCC emphasized the significance of the ceremony and charged incoming Executives to work diligently to contribute their quota to the development of the regional bloc.

As stipulated by the constitution of NUGS, the oath of office was administered by the Deputy Chief Justice of NUGS to the incoming Executives starting with the president. The swearing-in ceremony saw Mr. Theophilus Saki Sosi being sworn in as the president of Central Regional NUGS,
Wilhemina Bofla as  Secretary,
Augustine Tankong as Treasurer,
Priscilla Bassaw as Women's  Commissioner,
Emmanuel Gyan as  Press and Information Secretary,
Prince Mensah Aidoo as Programs and Projects Secretary and
Irene Baaba Arthur as Education and Democratization Secretary.

Delivering his address as the president of the students body, Theophilus Sosi did not hesitate to admit that, NUGS is plagued with several challenges from the national to the regional level. He however admonished his fellow executives to work hand-in-hand to help execute the visions of the National students body.  Sosi promised to make education in the region very Paramount during his tenure. "We will invest a lot of effort to enable basic student see the impact of education." He said.

On policies, Sosi believes he and his executives has a lot to offer especially to improve on the BECE passing rate in the region which has previously been unsatisfactory. He further hinted on decentralization policy which will improve education in the region. 'We need to expand the frontiers of the Regional NUGS.' Among other things, the President was grateful for been given the opportunity to serve NUGS at the regional level.

There were myriads of fraternal messages from both local and national level pledging their unflinching support to the regional bloc. Notable among these are the National Secretariat, UCC Debate Society and the National Health Students Association of Ghana.

Abeiku of the village thinkers fame lighted up the ceremony with his rib tickling poem titled, 'Oracle.'

In all,  seven student-leaders drawn from various tertiary institutions within the region were sworn in to comprise of the regional NUGS.
