TV3 Journalist Volunteers at UCC Hospital after reporting Cholera Outbreak in Cape Coast.

Broadcast journalist Spencer Kwabena Boateng Mensah after reporting up to speed updates on the outbreak of cholera in the Cape Coast metropolis is spreading love at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Hospital. The central regional correspondent for TV3, 3FM, & 3news.com embarked on a 3 day humanitarian assistance at the University’s Hospital.

Spencer, as part of his humanitarian initiatives, squeezed time for the Public Health Unit of the hospital. The Ministry of Health has recently confirmed about 157 cholera cases within October 22 and November 2, out of which UCC hospital recorded 36.

Health care professionals were extremely busy at the facility last week treating and discharging cholera patients. Spencer recalled that in 2014, while reporting a similar outbreak, the congestion at the facility was nothing to write home about. 'I sensed there was pressure at the facility while reporting cholera, and the urge to assist the professionals was uncontrollable.' Spencer told the UCCTimes.

Although the only background he has in the field of medicine is 'Medical Ethics',he does activities like recording data, weighing babies, and joining school health outreach programs which he says makes him happy. Officials of the University hospital have commended him for the action and have advised him to keep up his international humanitarianism.

UCC Hospital prides itself as the health facility of choice in the metropolis. Much efforts according to reports gathered by UCCTimes are being put in place to contain the spread of the disease within and outside the Cape Coast metropolis.

Spencer launched a 'SpreadLove' project at UCC in May 2016 to spread love throughout the world by way of advocating for Global peace and humanitarian aids. The Cape Coast School for the Deaf & Blind in Ghana, Happy Nest through some students of the Saint Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance (SPUEF) in Russia and many others have had their share of his 'SpreadLove' gesture.

The journalist believes his reports and this humanitarian step contribute to the achievement of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals 3 which hopes to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages by 2030.
